Glass grit is produced from crushed glass containers so will contain a small portion of ferrous, non-ferrous , and organic oils (see general properties) The risk of cuts from the glass is minimized due to the crushing process; but as with all abrasives, personal protective equipment is recommended. The silica contained within glass grit is bonded and therefore the material contains far less than 1% free silica. There is no ISO Standard for glass grit abrasives so materials are manufactured to a general British standard PAS 102.
